Joining the ASG Atlanta Yahoo! Group |
|
What's a Yahoo! Group It's where people with a shared interest meet, get to know each other, and stay informed. Your group gives you instant access to: * Shared message archives * Photos and photo albums * Group event calendars * Member polls and shared links |
|
Now, if I wasn’t already a group
member, that wouldn’t make a lot of sense to me. So below is my description. |
|
When you join a Yahoo! Group, it’s
like joining a club, but you never have to leave your house. There are
club members (the group members), a location, (the group website), a secretary
to keep up with events (the calendar), and a bulletin board (the group
email). The website holds the group files and photos. The group email
allows any group member to post a notice that every other member can see.
The calendar can keep all group members up-to-date on upcoming events
and appointments. All this may sound somewhat intimidating, but many Yahoo! Group members use only one feature – the group email. Because once you join the group, you can send an email to every member in the group just by sending it to a single email address. And, conversely, you can get every email sent by everybody else. |

Getting a Yahoo! ID If you don’t already have a Yahoo! account and ID you will need to create one. If you already have one, you can skip to step 2. Go to http://www.yahoo.com. At the top right of the page, click on Click on “New here? Sign Up”. Click on this link, which should take you to the following screen. ![]() |
|
Fill out the form on the screen. Where it says “Yahoo! ID and Email”, pick any ID that appeals to you. This can match your email address from another provider if desired. Leave the suffix as “yahoo.com”, or pick one of the other options, and then click on “Check”. Yahoo! will check and see if the ID you picked is available (i.e. nobody else has already taken it). If so, you will be able to fill out the rest of the form. If not, keep trying out ID’s until you find one that’s available. Note that an ID may not be available in one domain, but may be available in another, so try different domains before compromising on your choice of ID’s. The “domain” is the part of the Yahoo! ID after the @ sign. Write down your ID and password and put them in a safe
place! Remember, case matters in the password. Make sure you write it
down exactly as you typed it in. |
|
![]() Now, if you see the screen above, click on the Continue button. You now should be signed in under your new ID. At this point, you might want to sign out and then sign back in again to get comfortable with the procedure and verify your ID and password while it’s still fresh in your memory. 2.
